RETIREMENT FACILITIES

During the last 3-4 decades there has been a rapid change in the Turkish family structure which changed radically from extended family model towards nuclear family structure. The change has influenced affecting the way of living resulting in radical changes such as housing demand, social services, and caused problems such as rapid city growth together with lack of technical and social infrastructure.

The major group effected by this social change is elderly people loosing their connections with younger generation and suffering from loneliness and lack of care and being forced to live by themselves.

Governments, local authorities and social organisations have not been able to create solutions parallel to the rapidly growing social problem. As a result, additional to the problems of old age, lack of care services as an outcome of increasing illnesses make the case a major social problem.
Another result of this change is the increasing need for retirement facilities. Believing that with a good planning and organisational effort this need can be satisfied, Promet has made a preliminary study on retirement facility planning.

İstanbul has been selected for the first three facilities investments. Other major cities of Turkey with more than a million population such as Ankara and İzmir will be the subsegment locations. After a successful pilot study we strongly believe the project will attract the attention of public and private organisations mainly in metropolitan areas.

The American Model has been chosen for planning, design and operation of the facility. The service spectrum of the facilities will be "assisted living" and "skilled nursing" services. In the long run the network should include special facilities for special care needs such as Alzheimer patients and physically disabled people. The network will be working in close relationship with hospitals and health insurance institutions in order to provide services in emergency cases.

The Major features of the model can be summarised as follows;

1. The capacity will be 120 rooms/facility approximately

2. Half of the rooms will be sold with the guarantee of life long assisted living and skilled nursing services. Marketing price is expected to cover most of the construction cost of the facility.

3. Remaining rooms will be owned and operated by the management organisation.
